No fifth minister for League: High command

The Congress high command has decided not to give a fifth minister for the Muslim League. The high command will convey this to the League and in the mean time she will decide on what post should be given to them.
The high command has entrusted a special team to pacify League on the fifth ministerial issue. Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad, political secretary of Sonia Gandhi Ahmed Patel and AICC in charge of Kerala Madhusoodanan Mistri will hold talks with League leaders. The high command has directed to solve the problems in the UDF within two days.

VS not included in PB

Kozhikode:The PB panel prepared by the CPM Politburo here does not contain the name of party stalwart VS Achuthanandan.
It gives the hint that that he is unlikely to make a comeback to the PB this time. VS was removed from the PB in 2009. There were rumors that he will make a comeback to the politburo this time.
However, the final decision on the issue will be taken by the Central Committee.

CPI(M) 20th Party Congress Inauguration

KOZHIKODE: Charging the Congress and BJP with harming the country's interests by pushing neo-liberal policies, the 20th CPI (M) party Congress began with a call to build an alternative of Left and democratic forces to address the problems being faced by the country and people.
"People are looking for an alternative. The Left and democratic parties alone could provide such an alternative," CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat said inaugurating the party's all-India meet being attended by over 700 delegates.
Stressing that opposing neo-liberal policies would be a "central task" of the party, Karat said both BJP and Congress were pursuing the same policies and there was nothing to choose between them as far as corruption was concerned.
Both the Congress-led UPA and BJP-led NDA have "failed" to address vital issues like price rise and food security and their economic policies had cast a huge burden on common people in the last two decades, the CPI (M) veteran said.
"We, with other Left and secular democratic parties, will be launching joint struggle against these policies", he said.
He said the foreign policy of the Manmohan Singh Government of fostering strategic alliance with the US as its focus was "inimical" to the country's sovereign interests.
Referring to the electoral reverses suffered by the party in West Bengal and Kerala, he said the party Congress would examine and identify the faults and correct them.

Six killed as car hits lorry

THRISSUR: Six persons, including a woman, were killed and another injured in a road accident at Mannuthy Tuesday. The incident occurred in the afternoon at Thottapady on Thrissur -Palakad National Highway when the car in which the victims were travelling collided with a lorry. The car was proceeding to Thrissur from Bangalore and the lorry was on its way to Palakkad.
The dead were identified as Shaju, Varkey, Thomas Kutty, Laly. Alex and Francis.
Laly was a native of Thrissur and others were from Changanassery.
They were relatives. The occupants of the ill-fated car were returning after attending a funeral at Bangalore. The injured were hospitalised.

K. Jayakumar to become new Chief Secretary

The state government has decided to appoint Additional Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar as the new Chief Secretary of the State.
The post would be left vacant following retirement of present Chief Secretary Dr. P. Prabhakaran on March 31. This was informed by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy during the cabinet briefing session here on Wednesday.

Body of C. K Chandrappan leaves capital city

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of CPI leader C K Chandrappan, who passed away Thursday, has been taken to his native place Alappuzha. The body which was kept at the M N Memorial for the people to pay homage, left capital city by 7 am Friday morning. The body which will be kept at his family house in Vayalar for some time in the afternoon will be cremated at 6 pm at Valiyachudukad in Alappuzha with full state honours.
Many from different walks of life paid homage to the leader. Union Minister Vayalar Ravi and former minister Kadannapally Ramachandran were among those paid homage early Friday.

His father, C.K. Kumara Panikker, was a famous leader of CPI and was known as Vayalar Stalin. Chandrappan is married to Bulu Roy Chodhary, a political activist from West Bengal.He was adjudged the top performer by the National Social Watch, an NGO. However he could not be re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha. C K Chandrappan is currently the national president of KISAN SABHA.

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran CPI leader CK Chandrappan (75) passed away at Thiruvananthapuram KIMS hospital. He was suffering from bone cancer and was undergoing treatment for the same. He was admitted at the hospital on Monday when his condition worsened. Mr Chandrappan was shifted to the intensive care unit on Wednesday night after his condition deteriorated, sources said.

The sector is expecting many constructive proposals in the budget.
The budget is expected to give many incentives to high-tech farming which uses hight tech devices.
The budget may have proposals that could revolutionise the agriculture sector in the state. The farmers who try out such techniques tested by farmers in Punjab and Haryana may get a subsidy up to 50 per cent.
The aim will be to attract the youth to the agri sector.

Piravom by-poll: Record voter turnout in Piravom

Polling crosses 55 percent mark in Piravom
More than 55 per cent of the 1,83,490 voters had exercised their franchise during polling in the Piravom constituency today.
In almost all the 134 polling booths in the constituency in Kerala’s Ernakulam district, brisk voting was reported with polling percentage touching 9.4 per cent within an hour of commencement of the exercise at 7 AM.
LDF candidate M.J. Jacob, who was among the early voters, said he had to wait for nearly an hour at one of the booths to exercise his franchise. He said he was confident of winning with a vast majority considering the huge turnout.
Anoop Jacob is the UDF candidate while the BJP candidate is K.R. Rajagoapal. Women were among the early voters in the constituency with a 1.83 lakh electorate.
Government has declared a public holiday for all Government, quasi-Government and educational institutions in the constituency in view of the polling. Both LDF and UDF had launched a spirited campaign to woo the voters.
Piravom surged ahead towards registering a record turnout in the by-election which concluded on Saturday recording a high polling percentage of 86.3 percent.
Heavy polling was reported from most of the segments in the constituency. UDF candidate Anoop Thomas and his LDF rival M J Jacob were among the early voters.

Rail budget disappointing for Kerala
The state has obtained only two new trains and memu services. The new trains allotted for the state are Bangalore-Kochu Veli daily service and Kochu Veli-Yashwantput weekly services.
Ernakulam-Thrissur, Palakkad-Coimbatore-Erode are the two new memu trains announced in the budget. Chennai-Shornur-Mangalore Express will run daily. Nizamuddin-Kanyakumari Express will run twice in a week. The Mangalore-Palakkad Express has been extended to Coimbatore.
Paravoor in Kollam will be elevated as model station. Five new Adarsh Stations have been granted for the state. A survey will conducted on Kollangode-Thrissur, Balaramapuram-Vizhinjam, Angadippuram-Ottappalam and Chengannur-Thiruvananthapuram rail lines. Permission has been granted for Sabarimala-Chengannur, Kanhangad-Panathur railway lines.
An announcement was made to establish a 72 megawatt windmill plant. The wagon factory in Cherthala will be executed with private participation. A survey will be conducted for new coach terminals in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam. This was announced in the earlier budget also. Discussions on Thiruvananthapuram-Kasargod fast track rail lines will continue. The Palakkad coach factor will be completed with the cooperation of the state government

Cooking Method: Long Grain Rice 2 Cup
Toor Dal 1 Teaspoon
Black Pepper 1 Teaspoon
Cummin Seeds 1 Teaspoon
Oil 1/4 Cup
Mustard Seed 1 Teaspoon
Urad Dal 2 Teaspoon
Chana dal 2 Teaspoon
Dried Red Chillies 2 Piece
Salt 1 Teaspoon
Curry Leaves 4-5 Leaves
Asafoetida 1 Pinch
Grind the rice, toor dhal, black pepper and cumin seeds into a course mixture. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When the seeds pop add toor dhal, chana dhal and urad dhal. When they turn golden brown, add three cups of water.
When it boils add the salt, asafoetida and curry leaves. To this, add the ground mixture of rice, cumin seeds and black pepper. Stir it continuously until the mixture thickens and the rice is cooked. Close the mixture with a lid on low heat. If using a pressure cooker, allow the mixture to cook until the first whistle.
