Italian naval guards produced before magistrate

Feb 20, 2012 KOLLAM:
Two naval guards of the Italian ship Enrica Lexie, charged with the killing of two Indian fishermen off Kerala coast, were produced before a magistrate Monday evening.

The naval guards – Latore Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone – were arrested by Kerala Police yesterday and brought to the land from the ship which was intercepted and wharfed at Kochi Port.

They have been charged with murder under section 302 of the Indian Panel Code.

The dead – Valentine Jalestine and Ajeesh Binki – last week set out to sea in a boat along with nine fellow-fishermen from Neendakara fishing harbour.

They were allegedly killed by the marines of the ship who fired at their boat on February 15.

The Italian authorities have contended that the fishing boat was fired mistaking it to be a pirates' vessel.

After four days of negotiations involving Indian and Italian diplomats, the naval guards were arrested by police in Kochi yesterday.

They were later questioned by a team of senior police officials including Kochi City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar and Kollam S P Sam Christy Daniel.

Meanwhile, Cochin Port sources said the Italian vessel would be moved to the outer anchorage within the port limits.

The ship is presently inside the oil terminal due to which other oil tankers of various companies are finding it difficult to discharge cargo.

Two tankers of Kochi Refinery are in the outer harbour waiting to discharge their cargo containing furnace oil, Euro-III and Euro-IV products. Cochin Port and Coastguard would monitor the movement of the Italian ship, Port sources said.

Satan worship at God's own country! Beware of it.........

beware of this dirty thing which will leads to end of humanity

Though it might sound paradoxical the truth is that God's own country is inhabited by devil's own people who does not seem to care for any human values or ethics. To make a few quick bucks or to satisfy their vices, people stoop to any level these days.

Impure blood, urine collected in a human skull, triangle shaped slices of bread etc are some of the things that are being used for the 'black mass' which will be held on the 13th of every month. The so called organizers of this black mass fool people by making fake claims that these can solve many problems including financial woes and enmity. On the D day , the door number of the apartment or the proposed venue of the black mass will be changed to 666- the customary symbol of the devil- to make sure that the customers do not stray into other flats! Interestingly, the door number will be changed back to the original building number once the satan ritual is over

Tasty sambar recipe

Sambar
Sambar is a vegetable stew or chowder based on a broth made with tamarind and pigeon peas, and is very popular in the cooking of southern regions of India especially in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Each state in South India prepares it with a typical variation, adapted to its taste and environment.

METHODS OF PREPARING SAMBAR

For a long time I wanted to post different sambar preparations.
Today, I am posting the first instalment of preparing VENKAYA SAMBAR.

INGREDIENTS

Ingredients Sambar
150 gms of Thoram parappu (Toor dhall)
3 Spoons of Sambar powder (Please refer to my sambar powder recipe)
100 gms of sambar venkayam (small onions)
2 springs of curry leaves
4 Green chillies sliced into half
1 spoon of Perangayam(Hing)
3 medium sized Sambar Tomatoes diced in 1/2 inch pieces
Oil for tampering
1/2 spoon of mustard seeds
1/2 spoon of Fenugreek seeds
1/2 spoon of broken Dhaniya seeds
1/2 spoon of Perangayam for tampering
3 broken dry chillies
one spoon chilli powder
1/2 spoon of Turmeric powder
1 lemon sized ba*ll of Tamarind (add water and extract thick juice)
1 fairly large onion to be grilled on fire till outer cover is black and make paste of it in a mixi
2 tea spoons of freshly made paste of Coconut
1/2 cup of Kothumalli

OPTIONAL ADDITIVES

You can add vegetables like Brinjal, Lady's finger .Radish, kirai(bhaji) beans , carrots, etc for different variations of sambar.
But VENKAYA SAMBAR means pure venkaya sambar without any additives.

METHOD OF PREPARATION

Cook the dhall after adding one small spoon of Perangayam (hing) very well.
Keep it aside in the cooker for thirty minutes.
Now churn the dhall till the froth and keep it aside.
Take the baby onions and saute in oil for about three to four minutes.Take care that you don't cook the onions .

There is another variation of adding the raw baby onions in the Dhall and let it get cooked in dhall itself.I have found the second variation better for sambar taste.
Now add extract of Tamarind to Dhall along with salt .Boil the dhall till the raw smell of Tamrind goes off.
Now add semi cooked baby sambar onions and springs of curry leaves and sliced green chillies.Let it boil for about two to three minutes.
Now add three spoons of Sambar powder, one spoon of chilli powder and diced tomatoes and turmeric powder.
Let the whole thing simmer for about six minutes.

Take down the half cooked sambar and keep it aside.

Take the grilled onion, remove the burnt outer cover and make a paste of the onion
in a mixi .

Add the paste of coconut and onion now to sambar and slowly heat it on medium flame til it boils for about three to four minutes.

Tamper with mustard, chillies, fenugreek(vendiyum) seeds, broken dhaniya seeds and Perangayam.

Garnish with finely chopped kothumalli and set aside.

POINT TO REMEMBER
Sambar must be made atleast two hours befor you are to serve to self or the guests.
The real taste of sambar comes only after two hours of cooking.

Reheat the Sambar and serve hot.!!!

Five held guilty in Kiliroor sex case

 Feb 6, 2012
A court here Monday found five people guilty in a horrendous case in which a teenaged girl who was sexually exploited in 2003 died a year later following complications after delivering a child.

A Central Bureau of Investigation court here, which exonerated one person in what is known as the Kiliroor sex case, will pronounce the sentences on Wednesday.

The case had hogged the headlines since the victim, Shari S.Nair, who was exploited in the guise of being promised roles in films and TV serials, died in 2004. The then leader of opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, had publicly said that there was a VIP involved in the case and if elected, he would order the arrest this individual.
Achuthanandan was in office 2006-2011 but there was no movement forward and the CBI investigations also did not touch on the role of a VIP.

Among those who have been found guilty is Latha Nair, the woman who is alleged to have taken Shari to various places where she was exploited.

The others found guilty are Prasanth, Kochumon, Manoj and Praveen, who informed the court that he is the father of Shari's daughter, who is now in the custody of the deceased's parents.

Praveen, in an interview to a TV news channel Monday, said that Shari and he were in love and were planning to get married.

"I used to visit her home and her parents were well aware of our relations. They were for our relationship, but all of a sudden after Shari's death, changed their minds. Irrespective of what today's verdict is going to be, I will approach the family court to get possession of my daughter because I don't want her to be under the influence of Shari's parents," Praveen said.

Shari's mother, however, told reporters that all this was baseless.

"We came to know only in the hospital that Shari was pregnant. He has never come to our home. At no cost will we ever give possession of our granddaughter to him. If any court is going to rule that, all three of us (my husband, the child and myself) of will commit suicide," Shari's mother said.

Shari's father Surendran told reporters after the verdict that he would appeal against it in the Kerala High Court because the investigations had not gone to the heart of the matter.

"The CBI never dealt with the death of my daughter. Moreover, the CBI has named only ordinary people who exploited my daughter as the accused. We all know there are many more people who have exploited her and this includes some bigwigs. We also want to know about that" Surendran said.

Kiliroor case: The expected judgment on Today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: February 6

The CBI court here will pronounce the verdict in the Kiliroor sex scandal case on today (February 6). The hearing in the case came to an end on Monday.

The prosecution has charged the six of the accused - Praveen, Lata Nair, Kochumon, Manoj, Prasanth and Soman - with soliciting Shari, a minor, by offering her a role in tele-serials, but with the motive of abusing her sexually. Shari died on November 13, 2004 at a private hospital in  Kottayam after giving birth to a girl child.
The expected judgment on February 6 will be the first by the CBI Court here after it started functioning in September, 2011.

No mention of any VIP to anyone'

As the examination of witnesses in the Kiliroor sex scandal case continued in the CBI court here on Saturday, Dr Sankaran, the doctor of a private hospital near Kottayam, under whose care the victim Sari was till her end, deposed that he had never mentioned the word ‘VIP’ to anyone including Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, during the visit by many leaders.
He told the court that he had accompanied the then Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan to the hospital room where the girl was admitted and confided to him that the rush of visitors may be harmful, given the delicate medical condition of the girl.
“The girl was not responding owing to her state of health, though I told her that it was the Opposition leader who was with him and he could do some help to her, ” Dr Sankaran said.
The other leaders who had visited the girl included CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, Democratic Women’s Association leader P K Sreemathi and CPI leader Meenaskshi Thampan, among others, he told the
court.

Tandoori Chicken

Preparation

The chicken is marinated in yogurt and seasoned with tandoori masala. It is moderately piquant in India and Pakistan, but the heat is reduced in most Western nations. Cayenne pepper, red chili powder or kashmiri red chili powder is used to give it a fiery red hue in the original version. A higher amount of turmeric produces an orange color. In milder versions, both red and yellow food coloring are used to achieve the color.[1] It is traditionally cooked at high temperatures in a tandoor (clay oven), but can also be prepared on a traditional barbecue grill.
Tandoori Chicken has earned a name for itself and needs no explanation or introduction. Tandoori Chicken is just fabulous. The experience, the spices, the color, the flavor, the aroma….the combination of all this will have you coming back for more every time.

gredients:
Chicken – 6 pieces ( approx 1lb), washed & skinned drumsticks
MARINADE:
Yogurt - 1 1/2 cups, well beaten
Ginger Paste – 1 tbsp
Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
Red Chili Powder - 1/4 tsp
Paprika – 1/2 tsp
Tandoori Masala - 1 tbsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
Salt – to taste
Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp
Red Food Color – 2 drops, optional
Green Chili - to taste, ground
BASTE
Lemon Juice – 1/2 cup
Tandoori Masala - 1/2 tsp
Salt – to taste, optional
Red Food Color - 2 drops

Method:
  1. Wash the skinned Chicken well and with a knife, make 1-inch slits in it.
  2. Put the chicken in a gallon size zip lock bag and add in the Lemon Juice.
  3. Give it a good mix and let it sit while getting the marinade ready.
  4. Pour all of the marinade ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  5. Do a taste test for the marinade and adjust the salt and other spices as needed.
  6. Add the marinade to the chicken (in the zip lock bag) and give another good mix. Make sure all the pieces get well coated with the yogurt mixture.
  7. Store in the refrigerator to marinate overnight or minimum of 4 hours for best results.
  8. At the time of barbecuing, pre-heat the grill to medium-high heat.
  9. Get the baste ready by mixing all the ingredients together.
  10. Once the Grill is ready, spray some cooking oil on the grill so that the chicken does not stick to the grill.
  11. With tongs, place the chicken on the grill and close the lid.  Allow it to cook for 5 minutes.
  12. Flip the chicken, coat it with the baste and allow it to cook for a few minutes.  Flip again.  Baste again. Repeat a couple of times until the chicken is fully cooked.
  13. The Chicken needs to cook for approximately 18-20 minutes total.
  14. Remove Chicken into a platter.  Always let it sit for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to settle in.
  15. Serve with Mint Chutney or Pickled Onions.
